Dani Samuels, 21 years old (born 26 May 1988), is the current Discuss World Champion, after taking out the title at the 2009 Berlin World Championships. Samuels is the youngest female in history to win the event and the first ever Australian female to win the world championship in a field event. In 2008, Samuels was the youngest member of the Australian Olympic Track and Field team, she went on to be the youngest person in the finals of the event at Beijing and gained ninth place. Following her historic win this year in Berlin; Dani Samuels is now listed third on the Australian all-time list for Discus.

Dani was born in Fairfield and grew up in Merrylands. She attended school at Westfields Sports High School and represented Greystanes Little Athletics Club. She is also an accomplished Shot Putter and Basketball player.
